Academic and Legal Prerequisites
Academic prerequisites
- Medical Terminology (HLHSCI 249) and EMR (HLHSCI 046) are strongly encouraged but not required
- Anatomy and Physiology are also highly recommended
- The textbook is written at a college level
- Students are expected to apply concepts from college-level math, chemistry, biology, and physics
- This course is extremely fast-paced
- Weekly reading 100-300 pages
- 3-4 skills learned and tested weekly
- Written quiz (25 questions) or exam (50 questions) weekly
- Written homework in Canvas weekly (50-100) short answer questions
- Strong study skills are a must, or you will fall behind quickly! Get to know your classmates and start forming study groups.
Legal prerequisites
- 18 years old on the first day of class
- Must NOT have been convicted of:
- Murder
- Felony assault
- Sexual offenses/assault
- Felony possession and/or furnishing without a certificate of rehab
- Felonies involving weapons and/or violent crimes
- Misdemeanor theft or felony theft (this includes shoplifting)
- Fraud
- Drug or alcohol offenses without certificate of rehab
- DUI convictions – must have completed probation and a Drug & Alcohol Course and have minute order (email: PrehospitalMedicine@canyons.edu)
- Must pass 10-panel drug test, including THC, amphetamines, and opiates
- Bring valid photo government ID (driver’s license, state ID, passport, or military ID) the first day
- Must also have a valid Social Security Number
