TB Tests
Due Date: End of Week 3
-->This will take approximately one week, and you cannot get any vaccinations until it is done. Do this first!!<--
Step 1: Fill out the form
- Download and print the TB Test form Download TB Test form and take it to your doctor
- Follow the directions for completing the form Download directions for completing the form
Step 2: Get the TB tests
If you have NOT had a TB test in the last 12 months:
- Get a Quantiferon blood test done at a lab at the same time as your antibody test (titers)
- Once the blood is drawn you are done with your TB tests and can get your vaccinations and physical.
- This test can be expensive (around $100) and not all labs can do it - shop around.
Alternate test
OR you can get two skin tests, which takes at least a week:
- Get the first TB test placed. That means you get tested by getting a small shot on your forearm.
- Go back to get it read (examined) 48-72 hours after it is given. If you wait more than 72 hours you have to start over.
- Get the second TB test placed the same day the first one is read.
- Go back to get the second one read 48-72 hours after it is given. If you wait more than 72 hours you have to start over.
- The Student Health and Wellness Center makes you wait one week between tests. Most pharmacies (CVS, Walgreen, Walmart) will do the second test the same day the first one is read.
- If the first TB test is positive, you need to get a chest X-ray instead of a second test.
If you have had a TB test in the last 12 months:
- Get one new TB test
- AND provide documentation of the older one
- Attach proof of both AND the completed TB form to the checklist in the order shown
If you have previously tested positive on a TB test:
- Provide proof of a negative chest X-ray within the last 12 months
If you were born outside the US:
- You may have been vaccinated for TB
- This will cause a positive result on the test
- You will need to get a chest X-ray
Step 3: Documentation
- Add your TB test results and the completed TB Test Form to Checklist 3 Download Checklist 3
- Do not check off any items on the list - your instructor will do that
- Remove the staples from all of the forms before turning them in!
